"Maybe I shouldn't be signing this song, ranting and raving and caring on.  Maybe they're right when they tell me I'm wrong... NAH!!!"     -Denis Leary
"But sometimes that just ain't enough to keep a man like me interested.  Oh-No.  No-Way.  Un-Ah .  I gotta go out and have fun at someone else's expense.  Oh-Yeah.  Yeah-Yeah.  Yeah-Yeah-Yeah!"     -Denis Leary

Songs From An American Movie
Vol. One: Learning How To Smile

Just in!  Everclear's newest album.  On first listen, it's pretty good.  If you liked any of their past work, I'm sure you will like this one.  AM Radio and their current single Wonderful are the first standouts.  But there are other good tunes like Here We Go Again.  Once I give it a better listening to, I'll post a 'full' review.

Say it ain't so...  But it seems that after their current tour is over (according to reports from CNN.com), the Smashing Pumpkins are calling it quits:(  Their drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, wants to pursue other interests (he wants to become a race car driver?), and they recently had to replace their bassist, D'Arcy, with the bassist from Hole.  Yet, all is not lost.  They plan on releasing one final album later this year just before they breakup.  Whether it will be a studio album or a just a live album is unknown at this point.

Reportedly, Billy Corgan and James Iha plan to stay together, and work on a new project.  And since they are the heart and soul of the Pumpkins, I'm not too worried.  At least I got to see them in concert while I had the chance.  Actually, I've seen them 5 times...

TMBG?

That's They Might Be Giants for the less informed out there.  They are one of my favorite bands, and now they can be heard every week doing the music for Fox's Malcolm in the Middle.  Including the theme song of course, which they did live on the Conan O'Brien show on May 25.  On a side note, Malcolm has really come around.  At first I thought it was stupid, but now I think it can be quite funny at times.  Have you ever heard of a mother punishing her kids by taking away their pillows for a month?  Anyway, at the very least tune in to hear TMBG.

A Perfect Circle

That's impossible you say...  Well maybe so, I don't know.  What I do know is that the band lead by Maynard (from Tool) is damn good.  Maybe not as good as anything Tool has ever done, but their album Mer de Noms is still damn cool.  I saw them in concert opening for Nine Inch Nails, and they kicked ass.  (Side Note: If the NiN/Perfect Circle concert is coming to a town near you, you HAVE to go.  It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.  It kicked my ass.  Yes, you read that right...)

Summerfest is over:(

Well, Summerfest has come and gone.  While I personally felt the overall quality of bands at the fest (at least those of my taste) was down this year, there still were some great shows.

Deftones: A 'nice' way to start the fest...
Citizen King: A good showing in front of the home crowd.  Next they say they are going back into the studios to make a new album.  I can't wait!
Foo Fighters/Red Hot Chili Peppers: Excellent show.  Grohl running through the crowd was kinda cool.  I did get SOAKING wet, but who cares when the show was this good.
Bad Religion/Blink 182: Fun, but I definitely enjoyed Bad Religion more than Blink 182.
3 Doors Down:  A great showing at the fest.  I never actually heard their album before this thinking they were gonna be just a 'one-hit-wonder', but they sounded good start to finish.
Lit/No Doubt: I'm not a big Lit fan, and that hasn't changed.  I like No Doubt, but I realized they have just too many ballads.  Still an enjoyable show.
Bed Folds Five: Yes, another excellent show.  They claimed they hadn't played in months, and at times it showed.  Still, it was a lot of fun.  Folds 'forgot' the words to "Video Killed the Radio Star", and brought up a member of the crowd to give it a shot.  They didn't fare much better, but gave it a nice try.  And of course Folds stood-up on his piano to excite the crowd.

Check out www.summerfest.com while you wait for next year's fest.

My Favorite Bands

This is a short list of some of my all-time favorite bands.  Some no longer exist, but are still worth listening to.  This is just here to help give you a better understanding of what type of music I like...  If I listed all the bands I really like, this list would be waaay to long.  So I had to leave some out:(, for now...

Smashing Pumpkins
Nine Inch Nails
They Might Be Giants
The Pixies
Sublime
Blur
Citizen King
Rancid
The Clash
The Cure
Prodigy
